Abstract

This article investigates the influence of behavioral irrationality on traffic, based on Dan Ariely's book Predictably Irrational and behavioral economics. The research analyzes how cognitive biases, heuristics, and social influences affect drivers' decision-making, contributing to risky behavior and traffic violations. In addition, the applicability of strategies based on nudges and behavioral interventions to promote safer traffic is discussed. The methodology used is qualitative and exploratory, based on a literature review and critical analysis of studies related to the topic. The results indicate that behavioral economics offers valuable tools for understanding and mitigating dysfunctional behaviors in traffic, suggesting that public policies and educational campaigns can be optimized by considering these factors. It is concluded that the incorporation of approaches based on the predictability of irrationality can be an effective instrument for improving road safety.
